The Wolves needed just two plays before Larson caught a 22-yard scoring pass, and with Drew Smook’s extra point, NSU led 7-0. took the game’s opening kickoff and returned it a short distance before fumbling it and Northern State’s Blake Clay recovering at the NMU 22. Things started badly for the Wildcats as NMU’s DeAndre Neely Jr. His top three receivers each had at least one TD - Dakota Larson had 11 catches for 157 yards and a TD, Dewaylon Ingram five receptions for 69 yards and two TDs, and Hunter DeRize two catches for 27 yards and a score. Van Landingham had four TD throws with just one interception. Wolves QB Jacob Van Landingham was 20 of 30 for 290 yards, and with teammate Levi Cooper making one completed pass for 10 yards, NSU had a total of exactly 300 yards passing. Michael Love had four catches for 89 yards, while KJ King made five snares for 59 yards and Kyle Sahr four receptions for 40 yards. Sam Peiffer, who caught Hoard’s 24-yard TD pass on the first play of the final period, finished with 91 yards receiving in six catches. Hoard, who actually had a 14-yard run during the game, finished with just 4 yards net in 13 attempts. Bo Bell was the Wildcats’ leading rusher with a paltry 10 yards in two rushes. Part of it could be attributed to 35 negative yards Hoard had, wholly or at least mostly in sacks. While the teams’ passing totals were quite similar, Northern State held a big advantage on the ground, outrushing NMU 186-37. NSU also held a 486-323 advantage in total yards. Those pickoffs were part of a five-turnover day as the Wolves had just one turnover. ![]() Quarterback Aidan Hoard was the Wildcats’ highlight player on defense, completing 20 of 40 passes for 286 yards and two TDs but also three interceptions. NMU fell behind 44-6 about four minutes after the attempted onside kick went awry before scoring the game’s final two TDs late in the third and early in the fourth quarters.
